NY Fashion week kicked off yesterday. They’re taking a little break due to Nemo today. But it was nice to see a bit of BikeNYC represented…even if it wasn’t on the runway.

I think cycling is definitely becoming more fashionable in every sense. So much so that the carmakers are a little bit worried: http://invisiblevisibleman.blogspot.com/2013/02/a-dead-mayor-live-cycling-boom-and-why.html
Robert- Absolutely, and it’s a beautiful revolution that’s taking place. I’ve watched the number of people on bikes explode here in NYC over the last few years (and I’ve been bikenyc’ing since 1989). It’s not ubiquitous yet, but it’s real and it’s here.
As for the automotive industry- they’ve been worried for a long time. It’s evident in some of their advertising campaigns that try to make it look like one is ‘uncool’ or a ‘loser’ if you don’t drive a car. I grew up in the Detroit area and had/have many friends and family employed by one of the big three. I don’t want to see the auto industry fail but they do need to refocus. At least Ford finally admitted the importance of recognizing and working with alternative transportation modes recently. That’s a good start. And I am equally excited for the comeback that is finally (albeit slowly) happening in Detroit. It’s been a long time coming. The rebirth of Detroit is a homegrown grass-roots effort. They’ve got a lot of hurdles to overcome, but they’ll get there eventually.
