New Traffic Pattern

People on bikes trying to get across Central Park can look forward to one more safe and legal option real soon. Looks like work is about to begin on the new bi-directional cross town path at 72nd street. People on bikes have been using 72nd street in both directions for as long as I can remember. Technically, pedaling from west to east is illegal, but for the most part, has always been tolerated.
The new configuration will have two lanes for bicycles (one in each direction) and will eliminate one lane of car traffic during the two hours of the day that this part of the loop is open to motor traffic. One step closer to a car-free Central Park! Not much is going on yet, just some ground markings x-ing out the old lanes and some new ones hinting at the new configuration. I’ll be posting updates as work progresses.
